“Jerobeam liet afkondigen dat het jaarlijkse tempelfeest voortaan op de vijftiende dag van de achtste maand in Bethel zou worden gehouden (een datum die hij eigenmachtig veranderde), een gelijksoortig feest als dat in Jeruzalem. Hij offerde zelf op het altaar van de kalveren in Bethel en verbrandde reukwerk. Ook in Bethel wees hij priesters aan die dienst moesten doen in de tempels op de heuvels.”
